Butler Police11:58 p.m. Thursday — Samuel L. Auld, 39, of Butler was arrested for drunken driving after a hit-and-run crash on West Jefferson Street. An officer was on patrol when he saw the suspect’s van hit a sport utility vehicle.Moments before the wreck, the officer noticed the van “swerving heavily” and speeding. The driver did not stop after the crash.Police eventually tracked down the van at Auld’s home in the 400 block of West Cunningham Street. While officers were inspecting the damaged vehicle, they heard a man and woman arguing inside the house.Shannon Wasson came out of the home and told police that Auld, her husband, was “threatening to kill her,” documents said. She also told police that she had been in the van’s passenger seat at the time of the crash.While police were talking to the woman, Auld came out of the house and he admitted being the driver. Police smelled a “potent odor” of alcohol coming from him.Auld was later taken to the station for the breath test, which showed his blood-alcohol was 0.169 percent, or more than double the state’s 0.08 legal limit. In addition to driving under the influence, he is charged with hit-and-run and simple assault.He was arraigned on charges and released on non-monetary bail.
Butler Twp. Police1:10 a.m. Friday — Two middle-aged Lyndora men landed in trouble with the law after a disturbance on Hansen Avenue turned into a fight. Police cited both men — 50-year-old Scott Koosher, and 50-year-old John Hopkins — with disorderly conduct and harassment.11:40 p.m. Thursday — A Mercer County teenager was hurt when he lost control of his pickup truck and crashed on the Route 422 westbound ramp off Route 356 at the PennDOT gravel pile. Derek L. Garner, 19, of Hermitage suffered minor injuries.Police cited Garner for driving at an unsafe speed and not wearing a seat belt.11:09 p.m. Thursday — Austin Rusch, 21, of Petrolia was hurt when the vehicle he was driving crashed into a utility pole along New Castle Road near Butler Commons. Rusch was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with unspecified injuries.Both the pole and Rusch’s vehicle had severe damage in the wreck, which remains under investigation.3:11 p.m. Jan. 11 — A 17-year-old student was caught with suspected marijuana at the Butler County Vocational-Technical School The suspect, a girl who police did not identify, is charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana.
State Police, Butler1:27 a.m. Sunday — Prameela Lakshmanan, 29, of Shenley, Allegheny County, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence on Dinnerbell Road in Penn Township.
State Police, Franklin5:49 p.m. Sunday — Cory J. Lewis, 22, of Emlenton lost control his car on snow-covered Cranberry Rockland Road in Cranberry Township, Venango County, and struck a wooden pole. Police cited Lewis for driving too fast for conditions.12:10 p.m. Thursday — A pickup truck driven by Matthew L. Bashline, 26, of Emlenton rear-ended a car on Airport Road in Richland Township, Venango County. Police cited Bashline for careless driving. Yvonne M. Hetzler, 77, of Emlenton was the other driver.
State Police, Kittanning3:20 a.m. Sunday — A 26-year-old Sarver woman was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after she was stopped for speeding on Route 28 in East Deer Township Allegheny County.
State Police, Mercer1:41 p.m. Friday — Two would-be thieves with bad teeth made a quick getaway but left their loot behind after being stopped for shoplifting at the Famous Footwear store at Premium Outlets in Springfield Township.A store employee noticed the pair placing merchandise in a bag and confronted them. But the suspects, a man and woman, ran off, leaving the merchandise behind.The man is described as white, in his 50s, 6 feet, 2 inches tall and about 200 pounds. Bald on top of his head with a goatee and mustache, he wore eyeglasses and has yellow and poor teeth. He wore a tan Carhart-type jacket, green sweat pants and worn boots.The woman is described as being in her 60s, having olive skin, about 180 pounds, with large freckles on her face and dark bags under her eyes. She, too, has yellow and poor teeth, some that were missing. She wore a long puffy trench-style burgundy coat, a reddish knit stocking cap and sneakers.Anyone with information is asked about the suspects is asked to call police at 724-662-6162.8:14 a.m. Thursday — Tamara Vasbinder, 31, of Grove City was hurt in a two-vehicle wreck in Liberty Township, Mercer County. Vasbinder lost control of her car on North Liberty Road just south of West Valcourt Road and crossed into the opposing lane, colliding with a pickup truck driven by Bret G. Adams, 52, of Grove City.Vasbinder, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to the Grove City Medical Center with minor injuries. Police cited her for driving too fast for conditions.
