Man jailed after domestic incident

Strangulation, assault charged

Butler police arrested a city man after he allegedly strangled and assaulted his girlfriend Monday night during a domestic dispute at his home.

Bruce L. Stennett, 30, is facing felony and misdemeanor charges in the incident. He is in the Butler County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bond.

Police said they were called to Stennett's home on the 200 block of Hansen Avenue around 10:45 p.m. for a reported domestic incident. The 37-year-old victim told officers that she and the defendant began arguing after he returned home drunk.

She recounted that he slapped her face and “placed his hands around her throat and strangled her to the point where she thought she was going to pass out,” according to charging documents.

Stennett eventually let go. But when she tried to get up, she allegedly told police, he pushed her into a shelf with glass doors. The glass broke and cut her pinky finger.

District Judge Bill O'Donnell arraigned the defendant on a felony charge of strangulation and a misdemeanor charge of simple assault.

Stennett's preliminary hearing was not immediately scheduled. Online court records did not list if he has an attorney.
