Woman sentenced for stabbing man in stomach

A 48-year-old Butler woman was sentenced Friday to 11 to 23 1/2 months in the county prison for stabbing a man in his stomach in a city apartment building in December 2020.

Billie Jo Henry, of Butler, was sentenced by Common Pleas Court Judge William Shaffer after pleading guilty to misdemeanor charges of strangulation and simple assault. The sentence included 18 months of probation after she is paroled for violating her probation. She was on probation from an unrelated criminal case at the time of the incident.

No action was taken Friday on felony charges of aggravated assault and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon that Butler police also filed against her in connection with the Dec. 11 incident.

Henry, who had been in jail on $25,000 bail, told police she stabbed the then-24-year-old man with a pocket knife because he banged on her door and was interfering with her family. Both lived in the same building.

The victim told police that Henry came to his apartment and told him, “Don't (expletive) with (her) family,” before stabbing him.

Police said the victim had a deep, bleeding stab wound on the left side of his abdomen just below the rib cage. The victim was treated at a Pittsburgh hospital, where he was taken by ambulance.
