Fairview Twp. man wanted on charges after police chase
An arrest warrant was issued Tuesday for a man accused of leading police on a vehicle chase last week in Fairview Township that ended with him running into the woods and getting away.
Brian Lee Scott, 34, of Fairview Township is wanted on a felony charge of fleeing or attempting to elude police and a misdemeanor charge of flight to avoid apprehension or prosecution.
He also is charged with driving with a suspended license, careless driving, reckless driving and five other traffic violations.
Police said they were already looking for Scott in connection with unrelated warrants around 4:30 p.m. Jan. 12 when they spotted him leaving his home on Hemlock Road in a Chevrolet Trailblazer.
A short time later, police said, a trooper activated his emergency lights and attempted to stop him. The suspect, however, subsequently turned onto Buena Vista Road and accelerated.
Scott's SUV reached speeds between 70 and 80 mph, traveled on both sides of the road and ran stop signs during the police pursuit that continued onto Cherry Road and Fir Road, according to investigators.
Police said he eventually turned onto an “old racetrack access road” and drove between 75 and 100 yards before stopping. Scott and a passenger got out of the vehicle and fled into a heavily wooded area.
Police did not release the name of the passenger, a woman. Troopers searched the area, but they could not find either Scott or the woman.
The search lasted between 60 and 90 minutes, said Cpl. Mike Lewis, and was aided by the Petrolia Volunteer Fire Department, which supplied its thermal-imaging camera. The Butler Police Department canine also was called in to assist.
Court records and documents showed that police last summer obtained an arrest warrant for Scott on drugged driving and other charges stemming from a July 17 traffic stop in Chicora.
Additionally, he is wanted on a pair of bench warrants — in Butler and Armstrong counties— in separate misdemeanor criminal cases.
