City OKs return of state pension overpayment
Butler City Council approved the repayment of more than $12,000 that the state overpaid the city in retirement pension aid.
Council members unanimously voted Thursday to return $12,232 in state pension aid that was overpaid in the retirement of police Sgt. William Mayhue in 2019. The sum includes interest.
In unrelated business, council approved a request from the Butler Area School District to make Broad Street a one-way street with traffic traveling south between West Brady and West New Castle streets.
The district is reopening Broad Street Elementary School in the fall for the first time since it was closed in 2015.
The one-way restriction will begin Aug. 1 on a 90-day trial basis.
Council voted to advertise the sale of 130 hanging baskets for $2,500 and a 1998 Kubota B7300 four-wheel-drive tractor.
The baskets have been in storage in the Memorial Park pool house, which the city is planning to demolish this summer.
Proceeds from the sale of a tractor will be used toward the purchase of a zero-turn mower for the parks department, city officials said.
Council also agreed to close East Diamond Street from South Main to South McKean streets on July 24 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. for Christmas in July, a new event being planned by Butler Downtown.
