CENTER TWP — Six people were injured Saturday evening in a two-vehicle collision on Route 8 in Center Township, authorities said.

The T-bone crash happened about 5:50 p.m. when one of the two sport utility vehicles crossed into the other lane just north of Swamp Run Road.

The road was snow- and slush-covered and could have been a factor in the wreck, emergency crews said.

State police are investigating but an accident report was not immediately available.

The Unionville Volunteer Fire Department responded along with Butler Ambulance Service and Slippery Rock Ambulance.

One of the vehicles had two occupants and the other had five people in it. Three ambulances took one driver and five passengers to Butler Memorial Hospital with minor to moderate injuries, said Nathan Wulff, Unionville. VFD chief.

Two dogs were riding in one of the vehicles but neither appeared to be injured.

Firefighter Matt Hudak bundled one of the dogs, a Chihuahua named Tucker, in his coat to keep warm while its owner was treated.

Both dogs were taken to the Unionville fire station and later picked up by a friend of the owner.

The crash closed a portion of the road for about 90 minutes, Wulff said.

Both vehicles were severely damaged and had to be towed.
