Safety first, even for delivery personnel
Neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.
That’s not an official motto, but it is something that has been associated with the U.S. Postal Service for many years. It appears they hit a slight snag in their appointed rounds this week and about all we can tell the whiners and complainers is “get over it”.
Most likely, there wasn’t anything that important in there anyway except some junk mail flyers. Amazon, too, failed to complete many deliveries the past two days.
One of our neighboring newspapers, The Beaver County Times posted a notice on line for the second time in the past couple weeks that their customers would either not receive the daily newspaper or it would be delayed. It seems they have some silly idea that the safety of the people (young and old) that make deliveries should put safety first.
We aren’t going to make some silly claim that 100% of our products got delivered overnight. But our carriers did their best.
We print two other daily newspapers as well and we can swear those papers left here not only on time, but even a little bit earlier since none of us had local sports to cover.
So when we started seeing the personal attacks aimed at Postal carriers and Amazon drivers it made us thankful for our crews, but more-so made us feel bad for people who have to be so mean and intolerant of any service oriented workers but specifically in this case delivery people who are risking their health and welfare to delivery mostly non-essential items.
Perhaps a few complainers had medical supplies on the way. Hopefully, they will be OK waiting an extra 24 hours.
But if your book of the month club item was a day late or the swimsuit that you plan to wear this summer doesn’t come until Monday; please “keep your britches on” as my Grandpa might have said. Enjoy the snowfall, watch another Hallmark movie, take the dog for a walk, or bake a pie.
But for heaven’s sake don’t forget how much more important the health of these people is than your next catalog. And remember to say thank you when you get your delivery.
