Petruska reaches milestone

Mars hoop coach gets 500th win

Vita Vargo totaled 16 points to lead Mars’ girls basketball team to a 57-47 victory at Plum Tuesday night.

The win was head coach Dana Petruska’s 500th career victory.

Ava Black contributed 13 points and Olivia Donnelly had 12 for the Planets (17-4, 9-2).

North Catholic 64, Beaver Falls 31 — Dacia Lewandowski scored 20 points and Alayna Rocco added 15 as North Catholic overwhelmed the Tigers.

Anna Waskiewicz added 11 points for the Trojanettes (14-4, 11-0).

Freeport 80, Valley 31 — The Yellowjackets (6-9, 5-5) won this section road game easily, with Ava Soilis scoring 22 points, Melaina Dezort adding 19 and Marlee Sholtes 14.

Boys Basketball

Colton Thomas and Kyle Pry both netted 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and Moniteau allowed just 12 second-half points in a 58-30 victory at Cranberry.

Pry added five assists for the Warriors (4-11).

North also received 10 points apiece from Matt Gregor and Max Hurray.

Freeport (11-8, 6-4) was led by Gavin Glista and Zack Clark, who both tallied 11 points.

Union 60, Forest Area 13 — Trey Fleming led this rout of the Fires with 21 points.

Dawson Camper added 12 points for the Golden Knights (11-7).

Redbank Valley 48, Karns City 42 — The Gremlins’ late rally fell short after the team scored just 24 points in the first three quarters.

Luke Cramer scored 25 for the Gremlins (14-4). Chris Marshall matched that total for the Bulldogs.

Rifle

Butler finished second in the WPIAL championship competition Tuesday with a score of 800-59x. The Golden Tornado were nosed out for the title by Hempfield, which had an 800-64x.
