New COVID-19 cases up slightly in the state
A slight uptick occurred Wednesday in new COVID-19 cases in the state, but the recovery rate increased, and the number of people hospitalized remains low.
The county added 19 new cases, raising the total number of cases since the pandemic began to 11,106, and 1,127 new cases across the state raise the statewide total to 1,198,595. The number of new cases in the state had been below 1,000 this week until Wednesday.
The state recovery rate increased a percentage point to 94%. The rate was 89% on May 1.
Butler Memorial Hospital is treating 10 patients for COVID-19, including two in intensive care, and 1,186 people are hospitalized statewide, including 301 in intensive care. The 14-day average number of people hospitalized per day is decreasing after peaking at 2,751 people in May 2020.
About 28,653 of the cases in the state are among health care workers.
In licensed nursing and personal care homes, there are 71,654 cases among residents and 15,348 cases among employees. Of the deaths in the state, 13,263 have occurred in residents of nursing or personal care homes.
No new deaths were reported in the county, but 38 new deaths across the state bring the total to 27,123.
Gov. Tom Wolf said 70% of residents ages 18 and older have received their first dose of vaccine, and 52.7% are fully vaccinated.
He said the state remains poised to lift the mask mandate when 70% of the age 18 and older population is fully vaccinated.
In the county, 79,876 people have been fully vaccinated and 14,395 people are partially vaccinated.
Statewide, 4,552,126 people are fully vaccinated and 1,595,245 people are partially vaccinated. A total of 10,321,111 doses have been administered, including 6,147,371 first and single doses and 4,173,740 second doses.
All state residents age 12 and older are eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine. Providers can be located at vaccines.gov.
Anyone age 12 and older can walk in to receive a vaccination at the Butler Health System's clinics at the Clearview Mall and Clarion Hospital.
