Melissa and David Nowakowski

Melissa Shurig and David Nowakowski, both of Charlotte, N.C., were united in marriage 5 p.m. Aug. 19 at the Westminster Preserve at Armstrong Farms in Saxonburg. The Rev. Larry Swidzinski officiated. A reception followed at the preserve.

The bride is the daughter of Jerry and Lynne Shurig of Concord, N.C. Parents of the bridegroom are Dean and Sharon Nowakowski and Al and Cheri Grenek, all of Butler.

The bride was presented for marriage by her parents.

Bridesmaids included Laura Shurig and Amy Horton, both of Charlotte; Karen Shurig of Chapel Hill, N.C.; Heidi Forsthoefel of Huntersville, N.C.; and Lisa Cobb of Mooresville, N.C. The flower girl was Haley Blatt of Charlotte.

Ushers included Matt Nowakowski of Sag Harbor, N.Y.; Garrett Grenek of Butler; and Brent Gilpin of Charlotte.

The bride is a 1993 graduate of Central Cabarrus High School and a 1997 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She works for the Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

The bridegroom graduated in 1993 from Butler High School and in 1998 from ITT Technical Institute. He holds an associate's degree in electrical engineering and a bachelor's degree in telecommunications. He is employed at US LEC in Charlotte.

Following a honeymoon trip to Holden Beach, N.C., the couple is making their home in Charlotte.
