North Catholic is moving on to the WPIAL Class 3A football quarterfinals after a methodical 21-0 win Friday night over Beaver.

The No. 6 Trojans will face No. 3 Hopewell, 62-7 winners over Mt. Pleasant, next week.

Quarterback Will Toprani threw two touchdown passes, the first going to Will Waskiewicz, against the No. 11 Bobcats, who were without starting QB Jaivin Peel due to postseason ineligibility. Anthony Green scored the Trojans’ (8-3) other touchdown in the second half.

Brockway 62, Union/A-C Valley 14 — The No. 7 Falcon Knights (5-6) were simply overmatched in this one right from the jump. The second-seeded Rovers capitalized on a handful of early turnovers and jumped out to a 34-0 halftime lead. UACV held off the running clock until later in the third quarter.

Andrew Kifer recovered from two early interceptions — one of which was the result of an unlucky bounce off a receiver’s hands — with two second-half touchdown throws, one to Parker Bish and another of nearly 30 yards.

Girls tennis

North Catholic duo Evelyn Marche and Macaria Stall advanced to the PIAA Class 2A Girls Tennis Doubles Tournament quarterfinals Friday. But Moravian Academy’s Vicky Guo and Annemarie Andres knocked them out of the tournament 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.

The Trojanettes juniors, who claimed the WPIAL title a few weeks ago, won in the first round 6-1, 6-1 over a pair from Danville.
