Police: Man sprayed with mystery substance during Route 8 road rage incident

An Oakland Township man is accused of spraying another man with an unknown substance and running over his foot during an October road rage incident on Route 8 in Center Township, according to state police.

State police charged James Edward Walborn, 46, Monday, Nov. 2, with two misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct and misdemeanor simple assault following an Oct. 10 incident.

The spraying occurred while Walborn and another driver were stopped heading south near the intersection of North Main Street Extension and Mercer Road, according to charging documents. Police said the man was in his vehicle at a stoplight when Walborn exited his vehicle, went up to the man and sprayed him with an unknown substance.

Walborn told police he sprayed the man with tire shine, but the man said he was sprayed with WD-40, according to police.

Police said Walborn retreated to his vehicle after spraying the man and the man exited his vehicle and followed him on foot. Police said when the man confronted Walborn, he ran over the man’s foot, which knocked off his shoe.

According to charging documents, Walborn told police he sprayed only the man’s phone, not his face, because the man was holding it in his face. Both men also alleged the other threatened them.

Walborn’s preliminary hearing has not been scheduled.
