Douglas Giblin
Douglas Harry Giblin, 89, of Slippery Rock, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026, at home, after a short illness.
Born in Somerset, N.Y. on July 18, 1937, he was the son of the late Woodrow and Winifred Taylor Giblin. He and his siblings spent much of their childhood under the loving care of his grandparents, Charles and Grace Taylor.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the military police from 1956 to 1959, at Fort Benning. He was a truck driver for 55 years, retiring at age 81. He enjoyed gardening and was the best at decorating outdoors for Christmas. He attended St. John’s Reformed Church in Meridian, until recent years, when he and Martha would watch the service online.
In addition to his parents and grandparents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Bonnie Preston, Grace Anne Scott and Patricia K. Steele.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Ann Giblin; children, Kirk Giblin, of Florida, Bryant (Sue) Giblin, of Bolivar, N.Y., Rebecca Romeo, of Buffalo, N.Y., and Matthew (Patricia) Giblin, of Northern Virginia; stepchildren, David P. Nye and Laurie (Rob) Hawkins, of Slippery Rock, and Jacqueline (Steve) Bracknell, of Eustis, Fla. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his brother, Duane Giblin, of Florida; and his brother-in-law, William Steele, of Tennessee. He also will be greatly missed by his faithful companion Rosie, his little dog.
