Butler football overmatched on road as Hollidaysburg hands Tornado third straight loss
HOLLIDAYSBURG, Blair County — The Butler football squad ran into a buzz saw Friday night.
Hollidaysburg rolled up 489 yards in total offense, including 341 in the first half, while building a 38-0 halftime lead and rolling to a 52-12 mercy-rule victory at Hollidaysburg’s Tiger Stadium.
Led by an impressive showing by its offensive line, the Golden Tigers (4-2) compiled 399 of their total yards on the ground, sending Butler (3-3) to its third consecutive loss.
Butler head coach Eric Christy was still pleased with the fight his team showed for four quarters despite playing at a size disadvantage.
“We know that Hollidaysburg is a good football team, and they’ve got some good size,” Christy said. “We’re giving up size against most of the teams that we play, but I was proud of the effort that our players showed tonight.”
Junior running back Isaac Vent set the tone for the Hollidaysburg victory by rushing for 158 yards on 16 carries, including touchdown runs of 53 and 46 yards in the first quarter.
“My line helped me out a lot tonight,” Vent said. “All of the players on our offensive unit were communicating well.”
Head coach Homer DeLattre’s Golden Tigers benefited from four interceptions, two of which set up touchdowns.
Junior quarterback Vincent Albarano had TD runs of 4 yards in the first quarter and 60 in the second, while also hitting senior Issac Wallace with a 15-yard scoring pass in the third quarter.
Butler’s touchdowns were scored by senior back Nicco Baggetta on a 53-yard fourth-quarter run and freshman quarterback Coby Christy on a 1-yard run later in the fourth quarter.
“We started off the game well, and a couple turnovers gave us a short field for our offense to operate tonight,” DeLattre said. “We also mixed the run and the pass well.”
Butler hosts Baldwin next Friday night.
