Harmony pursuing funding for street construction; appoints new councilperson

Harmony officials are seeking state support for construction work on some of the borough’s streets.

At its meeting on Aug. 4, council voted to apply for a state Department of Community and Economic Development multimodal grant in the amount of $900,000.

The grant money will be used to pave four blocks of Spring Street and make improvements to parts of 1st, 2nd and 3rd streets in the borough, said Greg Such, council president. He said the work is associated with a recently completed stormwater project in the borough.

He said he is unsure when council will hear back on the status of the application.

New appointment

At the borough’s July 7 meeting, former councilwoman Beth Bruker Walos’ resignation was announced.

The council voted at the Aug. 4 meeting to offer Sylvia Wack the vacant position. Wack, a former chairman of Lancaster Township’s planning commission, will be officially appointed at council’s upcoming meeting on Sept. 1.

Wack resigned from her role at Lancaster in January.
