Butler man charged for 2 alleged assaults in 3 days

A Butler man is charged in two assaults within three days, one of which occurred in a parking lot on North Main Street.

Edward Earl Clark, 33, was charged with misdemeanor simple assault Wednesday, July 22, in relation to a parking lot assault that allegedly took place Monday night, July 20. He was then charged Thursday, July 23, with felony strangulation and misdemeanor simple assault following an incident at a Butler apartment complex.

In the Monday incident, police said they responded to North Main Street in Butler for reports of a fight. Police said they were shown a video of Clark punching a man from behind. The man then falls to the ground and does not move.

Police said there was a pool of blood left where the man’s head hit the pavement. The man sustained injuries to his face and left eye and was knocked unconscious. He was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital.

In the second incident, police said they were dispatched to a domestic incident. They responded and found a pregnant woman with scratches on her knee, left shoulder and throat.

The woman said Clark punched her several times in the face, causing swelling to her eye. When the woman tried to leave, Clark grabbed her from behind and squeezed her throat, police said.

The woman lost consciousness and woke up later on the floor, according to police.

Clark was being held Friday afternoon in Butler County Jail on $30,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing for Clark in the first incident is scheduled Sept. 14. A hearing for the second incident is scheduled Aug. 3. Both are scheduled before District Judge William Fullerton.
