Saxonburg man sentenced for Megan’s Law reporting violation
A Saxonburg man was sentenced Thursday to serve 2 to 5 years in prison after pleading guilty to a Megan’s Law reporting violation.
Shawn Michael Hails, 43, was sentenced to the state prison term followed by 24 months of probation after pleading guilty to a felony charge of failing to provide accurate registration information filed by Saxonburg police in December 2024.
Police said Hails violated his reporting requirements by not notifying state police he had left his job at an auto repair shop within 72 hours of quitting.
In addition, Hails was sentenced to concurrently serve 18 to 60 months in prison followed by 24 months of probation after pleading guilty to a felony charge of failure to verify his address or be photographed filed by Saxonburg police in September.
Hails is identified as a Tier 2 sexual offender under Megan’s Law. He was found to be an offender after pleading guilty to charges of unlawful contact or communication with a minor and indecent assault filed by Middlesex Township police in August 2015.
Butler County Common Pleas Court Judge Joseph Kubit imposed both sentences.
