Joseph Smelscer
Joseph Frank “Bud” Smelscer, 83, of Mars, passed away at home surrounded by family Friday, June 26, 2026.
Born Jan. 23, 1943, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mildred Marsh Smelscer.
Bud worked as a service repairman for Fairbanks Scale Co. for 47 years. He was also a member of the John E. Mair Lodge No. 729 in Mars, the Shriners, as well as belonging to the Mars VFW. In his free time, Bud enjoyed working on antique cars. He loved his trips to Florida and fishing there. Bud had many friends and was always willing to help people with mechanical problems.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of 64 years, Doris Pink Smelscer, married March 24, 1962; his two sons, Ronald (Charlene) Smelscer and Mark (Michelle) Smelscer; his two sisters, Judy Borland and Karen Gerstner; his six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by his sister, Joan Sarver, and his brother, Jack Smelscer.
SMELSCER — Friends and family of Joseph Frank “Bud” Smelscer, who died Friday, June 26, 2026, will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, at BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION CENTER, 856 Evans City Road, Renfrew. A Masonic service will also take place.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, at the funeral home.
