Robert Uber
Robert Uber, 92, passed away in Valparaiso, Ind., on Monday, June 22, 2026. He died 94 days after his wife of 70 years, Shirley, passed away.
Bob was born at Grove City Hospital on April 12, 1934, to Walter Uber and Eleanor Glenn Uber. He grew up in Slippery Rock. He worked in his parents’ appliance store and graduated from Slippery Rock High School in 1952, and Grove City College in 1956, with a bachelor’s degree in metallurgy.
On June 12, 1956, he married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Mayer. Bob’s greatest joy was his wife and family. He is survived by his loving children, Sharon (Edward) Coon, Audrey (Daniel) Sullivan and Glenn (Lynn) Uber. He was a proud grandfather to Robert (Jennie) Coon, David (Rita) Coon, Jenny Coon, Elizabeth Sullivan, and Benjamin, Jonathan and Daniel Uber. His precious great-grandchildren are Benaiah, Sharina, Bethany and Cassia Coon.
Bob had a successful career of 29 years working at U.S. Steel in quality control at four different mills in Pennsylvania, Illinois and Indiana, making nails, wire and tubing.
Bob’s faith in the Lord Jesus Christ was the cornerstone of his life. He was a dedicated member of several churches including Liberty Bible Church, Chesterton, Ind., Faith Bible Church, Joliet, Ill. and Center Presbyterian Church, Slippery Rock. His legacy of service included board member, Sunday school superintendent, elder, usher, Sunday school teacher, Bible studies and church libraries.
He was known for delicious produce from a large garden with canning and freezing. He enjoyed traveling and took his family camping, visiting most of the states. He had a life of philanthropy giving to numerous missionaries and charitable organizations over the years. In his 70s, he went on a mission trip to Bosnia. He read extensively and encouraged his children in music. Bob lived a life defined by his faith, prayers, service to others, integrity, generosity and his deep love for his family.
UBER — Visitation for Robert Uber, who died Monday, June 22, 2026, is from 4 to 6 p.m. July 15, followed by a memorial service at 6 p.m. at Liberty Bible Church, Chesterton, Ind., by MOELLER FUNERAL HOME, Valparaiso, Ind.
Grave side committal services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, June 29, at Scrubgrass Presbyterian Cemetery, Emlenton.
Local arrangements are by SMITH FUNERAL HOME, Slippery Rock.
