Dorothy M. Bly, 90, of Cabot, formerly of Chicora, went to be with the Lord peacefully, in the comfort of her home, early Friday morning, June 26, 2026, while in the company of her loving husband and family.

Dorothy was born in Butler on Dec. 12, 1935. She was the daughter of the late James C. and Ruby M. Johns Dunlap. She was a 1953 graduate of Chicora High School. Dorothy was of the Lutheran faith, and had most recently been attending the chapel service at Concordia.

Dorothy was a loving homemaker, had been employed by Mellon Bank and retired from Ed Shields Realty office. Dorothy was a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Chicora and later Butler. She served the order with distinction for many years as past Matron, past District Deputy, Appointed Grand Officer and International Grand Representative. Dorothy enjoyed playing 500, and the company of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, A. Dean Bly, whom she married in Chicora on Aug. 11, 1956. Also surviving are two children, Cheryl L. Brown and her husband, Barth, of Butler, and Glenn A. Bly (Michael O’Neil), of McClain, Va.; grandchildren, Aaron B. Brown and his wife, Tammie, of Butler, and Adeli N. Brown Berquist and her husband, Austin, of Butler.

Dorothy was affectionately “great mama” to her great-grandchildren Amelia, Emily and Natalie Brown. She is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, a brother-in-law and sister-in-law.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, James R. and Melvin J. Dunlap; one sister, L. Virginia Bishop; a great-nephew, Nicholas Dunlap; and an aunt, Nora Mae Smith.

BLY — A memorial service for Dorothy M. Bly, who died Friday, June 26, 2026, will be announced at a later date.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of HILE FUNERAL HOME OF CHICORA.

Interment will be in Bear Creek Cemetery, in Petrolia.
