N.J. man charged with homicide in Moraine State Park has 2 charges added
A New Jersey man accused of shooting a woman multiple times at Moraine State Park in May had two felony charges added to his case before waiving his preliminary hearing Wednesday, June 10.
Jevonn Jamie Brown, 31, of Hackettstown, N.J., had one felony count each of kidnapping and aggravated assault added by assistant district attorney David Beichner. He was charged May 4 with one felony count each of homicide and aggravated assault, and misdemeanor reckless endangerment following an incident May 2.
District Judge Joseph Nash also granted Brown’s request to reduce his bail from $1.5 million to $1 million due to his lack of a criminal history in Pennsylvania.
Police said the injuries of the woman Brown is accused of shooting were not life-threatening. She was transported to Allegheny General Hospital on May 2, and had left the hospital by the following Monday.
Police said they were dispatched at 3:19 a.m. May 2 to the Bear Run Road boat launch after Brown called 911.
Brown told police that while he was outside their vehicle and the woman was inside it, Brown thought he heard the engine “rev,” so he drew his pistol and shot the hood of the vehicle.
Police found the woman in the vehicle had multiple gunshot wounds to her right arm and left wrist.
The woman told police Brown made her drive to the location in their rented vehicle, and she alleged Brown had attempted to drown her earlier at a different location. She said she attempted to leave prior to the shooting but did not have the car keys.
Police found 10 bullet holes in the driver’s side of the windshield and another five in the hood on the driver’s side. Police found 15 9mm bullet casings at the scene.
A 9mm Glock handgun with a 30-round extended magazine was found inside the vehicle, according to police.
Brown remains in Butler County Prison. His formal arraignment is scheduled for July 28 in Butler County Common Pleas Court.
