Disability awareness program expands to Evans City
The borough of Evans City recently announced its participation in Project READY, a program which aims to improve emergency response outcomes for individuals with disabilities.
READY stands for “Responder Education for Awareness of Disability.” The program, which was first introduced in 2024 by Butler County Human Services, is designed to alert first responders to cases where an individual may not be able to interact as expected due to a disability.
Households with disabled occupants can affix a high-visibility decal to their home or vehicle with the words, “Occupant May Not Respond as Expected” — a signal for emergency personnel to adjust their response pattern.
A version of the decal for students in the Seneca Valley School District also exists which reads, “Student May Not Respond as Expected.”
Those interested in requesting Project READY decals for their household can contact the Butler County Human Services at 724-284-5114 or bcmhmr@co.butler.pa.us.
