Police: Butler man Tased twice during apprehension

A Butler man was Tased twice while being arrested following an incident on Memorial Day, May 25, in Butler, according to state police.

Mario James Longo, 35, was charged Tuesday with felony evading arrest and one misdemeanor count each of resisting arrest, institutional vandalism, disorderly conduct, controlled substance possession and drug paraphernalia possession following the incident.

Police said while on patrol in the area of Center Avenue and Monroe Street, Longo began yelling at them while punching and kicking a patrol vehicle. Police said Longo then fled on foot up a nearby hill.

When police attempted to interact with Longo, he continued to yell at police and charged toward them. Police said Longo was carrying an unknown device later discovered to be a vape.

Police Tased Longo after he reportedly defied commands. Police said Longo continued refusing commands and attempted to get up, so he was Tased a second time before being apprehended.

Police said Longo admitted to using methamphetamine and he was carrying Suboxone, a medication for treating opioid use disorder.

He is being held in Butler County Prison on $50,000 bail.
