Harrisville hosts Memorial Day parade

HARRISVILLE — On Monday at 1 p.m., a bustling crowd gathered to watch the Memorial Day parade, lining up on the borough’s Main Street sidewalks.

The parade was hosted by Harrisville American Legion Post 852. Prior to the parade, there was a ceremony marking the holiday at the Post pavilion.

Vehicles representing veterans from the Korean and Vietnam wars got the show on the road, followed by the Sons of The American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary. A military truck and ceremonial horses were part of the showcase.

The parade concluded with farming and firefighter apparatus. The latter included representation from several Butler County volunteer fire companies, including Harrisville, Grove City, Marion Township, Portersville and Slippery Rock.

From outside the county, there were appearances from members of Pine Township Engine Company, Mercer County; Clintonville Volunteer Fire Department, Venango County; and Emlenton Fire Department, Clarion County.

Starlite Xpress, a baton group based in Polk, Venango County, also partook in the parade.

Candy was distributed by several participants to children in the audience.
