William Chester Sayre, 89, of Butler, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, while a resident of Magnolia Place, in Saxonburg.

Born Nov. 10, 1936, in Humansville, Mo., he was a son of the late Wilma Brewster Sayre and Theodore Sayre.

William proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from Feb. 15, 1956, to March 19, 1961. During his service, he learned the trade that would shape his professional career as a lineman with the Department of Water and Power in the City of Los Angeles, Calif. He also worked as an auctioneer in Pasadena, Texas.

He is survived by his daughters, Billie Sue Winters and her husband, Bill Winters, of Butler, and Becky Lynn Payton and her husband, Gary Payton, of Shepherd, Texas.

He is also survived by grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Victoria and Merritt Hohman and their sons, Aiden, Evan and Oliver Hohman, of West Leechburg, Pa.; Micah and Cole Busby and their daughters, Kaynee Payton, Carter Busby and Leyla Busby, of Lockhart, Texas; and Natalie and Rob LeClair and their daughter, Tinleigh Knox, of Parker, Colo.

Additional survivors are his stepdaughter, Laura Hart and her husband, Jeff Hart, of Philadelphia, and their children, Sarah and Ian; and his stepson, John Springfield and his wife, Melissa Springfield, of Forney, Texas, along with their son, Tyler Springfield, his wife, Jennifer, and their two sons; and their stepson-in-law, Matt McFarlin, the husband of their late stepgranddaughter, Carrie Anne McFarlin, and their children.

He is also survived by his stepgranddaughter, Billie O. Winters and her partner, Jaden Selfridge, of Butler.

In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his siblings, Deloris Griffin, Gladice Shadon, Dick Sayre and Soundra Sayre; and his stepgranddaughter, Carrie Anne Springfield McFarlin.

SAYRE — In accordance with his wishes, there will be no visitation or services for William Chester Sayre, who died Tuesday, May 12, 2026.

Arrangements were entrusted to the care of MARTIN FUNERAL HOME SOUTH SIDE, 429 Center Ave., Butler.
