Butler County CEO in China with Trump, Musk
Coherent’s chief executive officer is part of a cohort of business leaders currently in China alongside President Donald Trump for his official state visit in Beijing.
Jim Anderson, CEO of Coherent — the Clinton Township-based company and manufacturing hub that makes fiber optic and laser technology critical for data centers — recently struck an investment deal with tech giant Nvidia.
Anderson is now part of a delegation meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Aside from ongoing, international issues like the War in Iran, topics discussed at the state trip are expected to include global business, trade and artificial intelligence.
According to the Associated Press, a White House official said executives in China in addition to Anderson range from those in the tech industry to agriculture, plus the heads of some of the world’s financial leaders.
Among the most prominent business people are Elon Musk and Tim Cook, CEO of Apple. Anderson is also joined by Dina Powell McCormick, president of Meta and wife of U.S Sen. Dave McCormick, R-Pa.
According to AP, other business people on the trip include Blackrock chairman and CEO Larry Fink, Blackstone chairman and CEO Stephen Schwarzman, Goldman Sachs chairman and CEO David Solomon, Citi chairman and CEO Jane Fraser, GE Aerospace chairman and CEO H. Lawrence Culp, Mastercard CEO Michael Miebach, Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon and Visa CEO Ryan McInerney.
