Karns City softball’s Abigail Dunlap throws no-no; Moniteau baseball rallies from down 7: Roundup

Karns City softball pitcher Abigail Dunlap was untouchable in Friday’s 9-0 victory over Union/A-C Valley.

The sophomore hurled a no-hitter with 18 strikeouts. The four Falcon Knights who reached base did so via walks.

Carley Conto paced KC’s 13-hit attack with three singles. Lily Neff and Nicole Huff both hit a home run.

North Catholic 11, Central Valley 1 — The Trojanettes (9-3, 8-2 WPIAL Section 3-4A) plated all of their runs in the first three innings.

Clare Kotwica and Dakota Hicks both had four RBIs, with Kotwica smacking a three-run home run.

Kennedy Brown added three hits and three runs scored.

Knoch 2, Burrell 1 — On a day when the Knights needed Marlee Fraser, the senior pitcher came through with six strikeouts, no walks and just one unearned run on four hits to out-duel Burrell’s Shelby Novak.

McKenna Brailey had two hits and a run batted in for Knoch (12-2, 10-1 WPIAL Section 1-4A), who won their ninth straight game.

Fox Chapel 15, Mars 0 — The Planets (2-11, 2-10 WPIAL Section 1-5A) managed just three hits, with Alyssa Foltz singling twice.

Mt. Lebanon 11, Butler 0 — Golden Tornado leadoff hitter Kyra Olivares had two of the six hits for Butler (1-14, 1-12 WPIAL Section 1-6A).

Baseball

Trailing 7-0 after two innings, Moniteau stormed back to grab a 14-9 victory at Mercer.

An eight-run top of the sixth put the Warriors ahead for good. Weston Cook was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored in the win.

Kayne Scott earned the pitching win after allowing two runs (one earned) in five innings of relief. James Gillen and Dawson Cook also drove in two runs for Moniteau.

Freeport 10, East Allegheny 0 — The Yellowjackets took care of the Wildcats in five innings to remain perfect at 13-0 overall and 8-0 in WPIAL Section 3-3A.

Freeport tallied just four hits, but was the beneficiary of 13 walks from East Allegheny pitching.

Luke Whitfield hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the second inning.

Armstrong 9, North Catholic 6 — Matthew Curtis doubled twice and drove in two runs for the Trojans (4-8, 2-6 WPIAL Section 1-4A).

Union/A-C Valley 5, Karns City 4 — The Falcon Knights received two hits apiece from the 1-2-3 hitters in the batting order — Trent Fleming, Caden Burns and Connor Langdon — and scored the deciding run in the top of the seventh at Pullman Park.

Lexan Alworth also had two hits in the victory, including a triple.

Camden Slater and Xavier Bartoe both had three base hits for Karns City.

Track and field

Karns City’s Alex Wilson broke his own school pole vault record at the Slippery Rock Invitational, reaching 15 feet, 3 inches to top his previous mark of 15-0.

Boys tennis

Seneca Valley closed the regular season with a 10-4 record after sweeping Shaler.

Marcos Lopez, Gianni Varlotta and Billy Conway won in singles play. Doubles wins were earned by Kylan Meiers/Liam Schley and Jackson Brandt/Trent Gordon.

Girls lacrosse

Layla Pegnato and Claire Dickson scored goals for North Catholic in a 16-2 loss to South Fayette.

Flag football

North Catholic was awarded a 2-0 win via forfeit over Neighborhood Academy.
