Butler Township reviews trash service bids

Rates could change for 2027

BUTLER TWP — Three companies have submitted proposals to take over trash services in the township from 2027 through 2030.

Bids for solid waste collection were opened during a Butler Township Board of Commissioners meeting Monday evening, April 20. Waste Management, the current service provider, is contracted through the end of the year.

The bid included four separate items: waste and recycling disposal for a 96-gallon cart and two 30-gallon bags; rear yard service; a request for a second 96-gallon cart for waste and a request for a second 96-gallon cart for recycling.

The bids came from Waste Management, Vogel Disposal Service and County Hauling. Ultimately, they were tabled for review in a 4-0 vote.

For weekly trash pickup and biweekly recycling pickup, Waste Management’s proposal would charge $26.16 per month, per household for 2027 and incrementally increase annually up to $30.28 by 2030.

Vogel Disposal’s proposal would charge $28.84 in 2027 and incrementally increase annually to $31.50 by 2030 for the pickup services.

County Hauling’s submission would charge $29.41 in 2027 and incrementally increase to $32.61 by 2030.

For the rear yard service, Waste Management’s bid far exceeded both Vogel Disposal and County Hauling, with the company looking to charge $820.63 for the service in 2027 and increasing to $949.98 by 2030. Comparatively, Vogel Disposal and County Hauling both offered a flat $300 rate for all four years.

As for the second waste and recycling cart, Waste Management would charge $8 per month for either in 2027, which would increase to $9.26 by 2030. County Hauling would charge $8.50 per month for either in 2027, which would increase to $9.40 by 2030. Vogel Disposal offered a flat $10 rate for the second waste cart and a flat $8 rate for the second recycling cart.

The next scheduled Butler Township board of commissioners meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 4.
