Richard ‘Dick’ Coppock
Richard Allen “Dick” Coppock, 85, entered into the joy of his Lord on Friday, April 17, 2026, following 5 months of illness.
Dick walked with and served the Lord Jesus for 66 years, having asked Him to come into his heart when he was 19.
Through the years, Dick lived in Cheswick, Pa., Zelienople and Cranberry Township, and Columbus and Chillicothe, Ohio.
Dick was born April 13, 1941, in Ross County, Ohio, one of nine children of Wesley and Addie (Mendenhall) Coppock. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Wesley (Judy) and Tommy; sisters, Evelyn (Bill) Scharenberg, Mary Bridenbaugh and JoAnne Robinson; and brothers-in-law, Timothy and Mark Ballenger.
He is survived by his brother, Marvin (Pam) Coppock; sisters, Shirley Huff and Linda (Major) Young; brother-in-law, Elza Bridenbaugh; sisters-in law, Audrey Ballenger and Melinda Ballenger; and many nieces and nephews.
On April 6, 1968, Dick married Diann Ballenger. They are the parents of Amy Coppock Saleone and Aaron Coppock. He was a loving PopPop to five grandchildren, Kayleigh (Matt) Milewski, Leah (Jacob) Potter, Christy Saleone, Abby Saleone and James Saleone; and the joy of every family member’s life, great-granddaughter, Gabriella Renee Potter.
His family brought him so much joy.
Dick was a graduate of Huntington High School in Ross County, Ohio, and a proud member of the 1959 county champion basketball team. He attended Ohio University and completed his education with a Bachelor of Business Administration with minors in math and chemistry from Franklin University in Columbus, Ohio.
Dick entered the Marine Corps in March of 1966 and served 13 months in Vietnam, completing his service as a lance corporal. He spent several years working in research and development at Mead Paper Company in Chillicothe, helping develop carbonless copy paper, and at Battelle Memorial Institute in Columbus, Ohio, focusing on the development of the UPC code system and Xerox machines. After completing his education, he became a manufacturer’s representative with Hobart Corporation.
After retiring, he became the visitation director for his church, LifePointe Alliance, in Mars, where he had served as an elder, deacon, trustee and odd jobber. Visiting church members in nursing homes, hospitals and in their homes was not a job to him, it was a service to the Lord; sitting with families when their loved ones were having surgery, praying with them and helping make the waiting time easier and, when the need arose, being with them at the funeral home and attending the services. His final retirement was at age 80.
Dick was well known for his sense of humor. His grandchildren, early on, would call him “Silly PopPop.” He loved to tinker and repair things and enjoyed beach vacations.
Along with those mentioned, Dick leaves behind a host of friends and “family” and he is looking forward to meeting them all in Glory and spending eternity with them.
The family would like to thank Good Samaritan Hospice and Senior Helpers for their help and concern during Dick’s last days.
