Butler volleyball pops McDowell, moves to 9-2; Seneca Valley baseball beats Shaler: Roundup

Butler boys volleyball faced little adversity Friday while handling host McDowell by scores of 25-15, 25-18 and 25-18.

Jacob Proudfoot tallied 12 kills and three blocks for the Golden Tornado (9-2).

Andrew Slaugenhoup also had 12 kills. Avery Rudolph handed out 33 assists and added three aces, Maddox McCall contributed 14 digs.

Baseball

Danny Drennan had three hits and scored four runs for Seneca Valley as it downed Shaler 13-7. Brandon Godleski added a homer and three RBIs for the Raiders (6-5).

North Allegheny 8, Butler 1 — The Golden Tornado were held to three knocks as they tried for the three-game series sweep on the road. Boden Lenyk had a double and Ryan Rattigan a triple.

Butler falls to 7-3 overall and 4-2 in WPIAL Section 1-6A play.

Cranberry 10, Union/A-C Valley 6 — Connor Langdon and Caden Burns both had a pair of RBIs in the loss. The Falcon Knights had seven hits, all singles.

Softball

Arianna Hieserich had three hits, including a double, and four RBIs as Mars downed Penn Hills 13-2. Paige Lauten went three innings in the circle, allowing two earned runs while striking out three and walking two.

Knoch 11, Derry 3 — Lizzie Danik banged out three hits and scored twice, while Lindsey Wise had a pair of singles and Kaila Purcell and McKenna Brailey both had doubles.

Emersyn Jones pitched four innings, striking out six and walking one.

North Catholic 21, Ambridge 7 — Dakota Hicks had five hits — including four doubles — and four RBIs as the Trojanettes rolled in six frames. North Catholic plated 10 in their half of the fifth inning, and Mary Kotwica added three hits and three runs driven in.

Indiana 3, Freeport 2 — Mady Bell turned in 4.1 innings in the circle, giving up three runs — two of which were earned. Addyson Caruso notched the Yellowjackets’ lone hit.

Hempfield 10, Butler 0 — Kaylin Garbinski had the Golden Tornado’s only hit in a five-inning defeat.

Boys lacrosse

Knoch routed Allderdice 15-2 thanks to five goals apiece from Gavin Danehy and Jake Jones. Peyton McIntyre also had three goals.

Boys tennis

Seneca Valley improved its record to 7-1 overall and 4-1 in WPIAL Section 2-3A with a 4-1 victory over North Hills.

Marcos Lopez, Gianni Varlotta and Dylan Howe swept singles play for the Raiders, who also featured Liam Schley and Kylan Meiers winning at No. 1 doubles.
