Independence Health System reaches milestones
The multidisciplinary structural heart teams at Butler Memorial and Westmorland hospitals have achieved some milestones recently.
Butler Memorial Hospital, which began offering minimally invasive transcatheter aortic valve replacement procedures to treat aortic stenosis nearly 10 years ago, completed its 1,000th case this month, while Westmoreland Hospital, has completed its 600th case, after five years of offering the procedure, according to Independence Health System.
Aortic stenosis is a common heart valve condition in which the aortic valve narrows due to calcium buildup and scarring, reducing blood flow from the heart to the body.
It most commonly affects older adults, but also can affect individuals with congenital heart defects.
