Joseph Cicco Sr.

Cicco

Joseph “Joe” Walter Cicco Sr., 81, of Tampa, Fla., formerly of Butler, passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2026, after an illness, surrounded by his loving children.

He was born on May 3, 1944, in Sewickley, Pa., the second of nine children and the last surviving member of his immediate family. He graduated from Butler High School in 1962.

Joe retired from AK Steel in 2001 after nearly 35 years of service. He made good friends there and often spoke fondly of those years and the comradery he shared at work.

He had an exceptional memory, a natural ability with numbers and a love of music. He especially enjoyed the doo-wop era, which reminded him of simpler times, along with music from the 1970s and 1980s. He was a devoted fan of Pittsburgh sports, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers, and loved his hometown of Butler. He was an avid weightlifter during most of his life. He had a playful sense of humor that was uniquely his own and loved sharing jokes.

He is survived by his three children, Joseph W. Cicco Jr. (Stephanie), Jennifer Cicco and Gina Cicco (Donald Farrington), all of Florida; five grandchildren, Joseph W. Cicco III, David Cicco, Nicole Cicco McMillan, Ian Cicco and Timothy Cicco; two great-grandchildren, Ella Cicco and Bennett Cicco; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Cicco Sr.; his mother, Mary Cicco (née Kopp); his brothers, William Cicco Jr., Jack Cicco, David Cicco, Robert Cicco, Michael Cicco and Timothy Cicco; his sisters, Diane Ellis and Janice Crispin; his beloved grandparents, Joseph Cicco and Assunta Cicco; and his dear uncles.

His family takes comfort in knowing he is resting in heavenly peace through faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain …” — Revelation 21:4

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
