Report: Tiger Woods called President Trump from DUI crash scene
Tiger Woods indicated that he phoned President Trump while police were investigating a crash that resulted in a DUI charge against the famed golfer.
Woods reportedly wandered out from the back of a police cruiser uncuffed while cops perused the Florida crash site where he allegedly clipped the back of a trailer being pulled by a work truck on March 27.
Video obtained by TMZ show the five-time Masters Tournament winner appearing to use that time to stroll into a secluded area to make a phone call. On his way back he appears to end a phone call by thanking someone.
“Yeah, I was just talking with the President,” he tells police after being instructed not to stray too far.
The alleged crime scene included Woods’ SUV, which was flipped onto its side. He’s been charged with two misdemeanors. Police also reported finding two painkillers in Woods’ pockets. He was eventually handcuffed and taken to the Martin County Jail.
It’s not clear what he might’ve told the President by phone, but TMZ said Woods seemed to indicate to cops last Friday that Trump was “apologetic” for having told Fox News before the crash that he didn’t think Woods would participate in next week’s Masters Tournament in Georgia.
After the crash, Woods and tournament officials confirmed that would indeed be the case.
Woods and Trump have a friendly relationship.
In addition to having golfed with one another, the pair spent time together at the White House in 2019 when Woods was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Woods is currently dating the President’s former daughter-in-law, Vanessa Trump.
Trump seemed to be aware something happened to Woods when he spoke to reporters from an airport tarmac on the day of Woods’ crash.
“He’s got some difficulty,” the President said. “There was an accident and that’s all I know.”
