SRU approves new fees, increases for dining and parking
Slippery Rock University’s council of trustees voted to increase some fees for students, including academic, dining and parking fees.
The council voted at its business meeting Friday, March 27, for the new structure fee, effective at the beginning of the 2026-27 academic year. According to an SRU news release, the change impacts services such as academic fees for the physician assistant, nursing, physical therapy and occupational therapy programs.
Academic program fees will take affect this summer. This includes a 3% increase for physician assistant studies and a 47% decrease for occupational therapy.
SRU is introducing a new, four-year nursing program this fall. The nursing program will see a fee of $999 per semester for its four-year program and will be indexed to tuition.
Physical therapy does not have an existing fee. It will see a new fee of 1.25% of tuition, which averages out to $100 per term.
SRU students’ 14-meal dining plan, the most common among students, will increase by $238 per year. The increases are based on “a combination of the consumer price index for food away from home and the cost of labor and program enhancements,” according to SRU.
Parking permits will increase by $75 per year. SRU said the increase is necessary to cover the costs of maintaining and enhancing parking lots.
Technology fees will see a $56 increase next year for in-state students. Out-of-state students will also see an 11.3% in technology fees.
Student life fees will increase by $1 per credit hour. A 15-credit student will see the increase from $75 to $90 per semester. The fee had not been raised since its inception in the 2011-12 school year. Officials say that if it had not been raised, SRU would have to cut back student life programming, according to the news release.
