Robert Leslie
Robert L. Leslie, 102, longtime resident of New Castle, passed away the morning of March 21, 2026, at Concordia at Cabot in Butler.
Born Jan. 6, 1924, in New Castle, he was the son of Walter N. and Blodwen (Leyshon) Leslie. He was preceded in death Oct. 22, 2022, by his beloved wife of 74 years, Betty J. (Coryea) Leslie, whom he married Aug. 28, 1948.
Bob was a 1942 graduate of New Castle High School and furthered his education at the University of Oklahoma and Westminster College.
In 1943 he was inducted into the United States Army during World War II where he served in combat as a sergeant, receiving several decorations and medals. Among them was the Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal with one oak-leaf cluster, and the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with three Bronze Stars.
After returning from his military service, he worked for Spencer Paint & Glass Co. in New Castle, eventually becoming the president and co-owner until his retirement.
He was active with several organizations in the New Castle area, including the American Legion 343, Veterans of Foreign Wars 315, Disabled American Veterans, Sons of the American Revolution and the 103 Infantry Division Association.
Bob was an active member of Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church where in previous years he served as a Sunday school teacher and elder.
He is survived by one daughter, Karen (Carl) Baughman of Butler; two sons, David R. (Mayri) Leslie of Stevensville, Md., and James R. (Judy) Leslie of Lebanon, Pa.; one brother, William Leslie of Tucson, Ariz.; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by an infant twin sister and one sister-in-law, Elsie Leslie.
LESLIE — A two hour visitation for Robert L. Leslie, who died Saturday, March 21, 2026, will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, at R. CUNNINGHAM FUNERAL HOME of New Castle.
A funeral service with military honors will take place immediately following at 3 p.m. with Pastor Steve Plyler officiating.
He will be laid to rest near his wife in Graceland Cemetery.
