Erma Klann Fontaine, 89, of Butler, peacefully passed away in the presence of her loving family on Monday, March 16, 2026, at Orchard Manor in Grove City.

Born May 27, 1936, in Serbanovka, Ukraine, she was a daughter of the late Herbert Klann and Olga Semke Klann. She immigrated with her family to the United States through Ellis Island in 1952 and became an American citizen in 1961.

Erma was employed for 20 years at Moonlight Mushrooms.

She was a member of All Saints Parish, St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church. Being outdoors gave her great joy and she loved gardening, cultivating flowers, landscaping and mowing her yard.

She is survived by three children, Michael Fontaine and his wife, Christine, of Butler, Tamara Steighner and her husband, Daniel, of Butler, and Sandra DiGregorio, of Butler; six grandchildren, Jamie Bleicher and her husband, Ben, Amanda Thomassen and her husband, Paul, Cayla Fontaine, Kylee DiGregorio, Cory Steighner and his wife, Jayme, and Katlyn Walsh and her husband, Matt; and six great-grandchildren, Brady Bleicher, Kendyl and Teaghan Steighner, Corra and Cade Walsh and Colton Thomassen.

Erma is also survived by three brothers, Manfred Klann and his wife, Dorothy, of Butler, Helmut Klann and his wife, Debbie, of Foley, Ala., and Robert Klann and his wife, Jeannie, of Huntersville, N.C.; one sister, Irene Wood and her husband, William, of Butler; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Klann, of New Castle, and Carol Klann, of Stuart, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harold J. Fontaine, whom she married Dec. 27, 1954, and who passed away May 19, 2014; one son, Thomas Fontaine; one grandson, Derek DiGregorio; six brothers, Walter Klann, Bernhard Klann, Eric Klann, Erwin Klann, Harry Klann and Gerhard Klann; and one sister, Margaret Ratz.

The family sincerely thanks the nurses and aides at Orchard Manor for their extraordinary care and kindness — Tina, Barb, Kathy, Jennifer, Amy, Cathy and Robert.

FONTAINE — Friends of Erma Klann Fontaine, who died Monday, March 16, 2026, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 23, at MARTIN FUNERAL HOME DOWNTOWN, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 24, at All Saints Parish, St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church, 1660 N. Main St., Butler, with the Rev. Nicholas Argentieri officiating.

Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery.
