Seneca Valley softball’s Kalkowski pitches gem in win: Roundup

Abby Kalkowski delivered five no-hit innings, striking out 11 and walking just one, in Seneca Valley softball’s 5-1 victory over Harbor Creek on Thursday.

SV had nine hits, all singles, with Julia Valasek tallying three of them.

Abby McClellan, Rachael Dunmire, Neve Miller, Valasek and Kalkowski each drove in a run.

Dunmire pitched the final two innings for the Raiders.

New Castle 22, Butler 15 — The Golden Tornado led 14-11 entering the bottom of the sixth inning, but surrendered 11 runs in this road loss.

Mikayla Crouch went 3-for-5 with two doubles, two RBIs and three runs scored for Butler. Kaylan Garbinski tallied three base hits and drove in three runs and Khloe Brown hit a home run and drove in four.

Sharon 11, Karns City 0 — Madelyn Vogan pitched a five-inning perfect game for the Tigers, striking out 13. She added a home run at the plate.

Baseball

Kason Barker had two hits, including a home run, scored three runs and drove in two in Freeport’s 10-3 win at Highlands.

Ashton Bricker added two hits and four RBIs.

Owen Westendorf, Gage Blystone and Luke Logsdon combined to strike out 14 and walk three while allowing three hits in the victory. All three runs for Highlands were unearned.

Burrell 11, Knoch 1 — The Knights were limited to three hits by the Bucs’ Brayden Mell.

Kaden Dreher singled and drove in Knoch’s tally.

Plum 6, Seneca Valley 0 — Four pitchers for the Mustangs combined to no-hit the host Raiders.

Braden Kemmerer, Greg Huff, Dom Lauletta and Brennan Ryan teamed up to strike out seven and walk one.

Elliott Murnock started on the mound for SV and shouldered the loss, allowing four runs (one earned) on three hits in two innings.

Boys tennis

Butler dropped a 4-1 decision to Moon, with junior Jeremy Schreffler and freshman Evan Conaway teaming up for the Golden Tornado’s victory at No. 1 doubles.

North Catholic 5, Beaver 0 — Justin Garvey, Alex Weber and the Trojans’ doubles duo of Paddy McCabe/Lenny Splane each won their matches in straight sets.

Boys volleyball

Butler toppled Norwin via sweep by scores of 25-19, 25-20 and 25-15.

Jacob Proudfoot tallied 12 kills and Avery Rudolph 31 assists for the Tornado (3-0).

Jaeden Malacaman served up three aces and Maddox McCall had 15 digs in the win.

Montour 3, Mars 0 — Will Suppa had six kills for the Planets, who fell to the Spartans by scores of 25-16, 25-12 and 25-9.

Meadville 3, Seneca Valley 2 — No other details were available.

Girls lacrosse

Hailey Long, Katie Blake and Anna McGrath each found the net five times as Mars smacked Peters Township 25-4.

Ella DePaoli and Tess McGrath both scored three times. Julia Lego made four saves in the victory.
