Police: Louisiana man stabs man in Bruin

A Louisiana man is accused of stabbing a man during an argument in Bruin.

Byron Keith Laxey Jr., 31, of Lafayette, La., was charged Wednesday, March 18, with felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor simple assault following an incident Wednesday.

Police said they were dispatched to an area of Bruin for reports of a man bleeding from a puncture from a machine. At the scene, police determined a man had been stabbed with a knife during an altercation between two co-workers.

Laxey and a co-worker got into an argument about how to complete a job, according to police. The argument took place as one of them was attempting to cut open plastic packaging with a pocket knife, police said.

According to police, the man stood up and shoved Laxey about 10 feet back into a heater. The conflict ended when the man realized he was bleeding, and Laxey called 911.

The man was flown by Stat MedEvac to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. Police said he had two wounds on his left side.

Police said the knife struck his lung, which had to be reinflated at the hospital.

Laxey did not recall stabbing or slashing the man with the knife and was trying to stop the man from shoving him, police said. A witness told police the injured man had been angry at Laxey and was pushing him and “swinging” at him. However, the witness did not see Laxey use a knife.

Police later interviewed the injured man, who said Laxey had been in his face and might have pushed him. He said he did not know where the knife came from and did not realize what happened until he felt burning on his side.

Laxey’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:20 a.m. March 31 before District Judge Lewis Stoughton. He is being held in Butler County Prison on a $10,000 bail.
