Kelly, Congress should focus on real issues

I am writing to express my objection to U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly’s recent vote for the SAVE America Act in the U.S. House. (“House passes strict voter regulation,” Butler Eagle, Feb. 13, Page 10). I believe this legislation does not serve the best interests of our community or the nation. The act, presented as a solution to current challenges, actually undermines many protections and programs Americans rely on.

I believe voting will become more difficult, thus fewer people will vote. It threatens to roll back important social and economic safeguards, and its passage would disproportionately affect vulnerable populations, including seniors, working families and children.

Kelly’s support is disappointing but not unexpected. Instead of voting for legislation that divides and destabilizes, our representative should champion policies investing in education, health care and infrastructure — areas where government intervention improves lives. The SAVE Act prioritizes political rhetoric over sound policy, risking the well-being of Americans in the process. It is imperative lawmakers focus on bipartisan solutions that address real issues rather than pushing through bills more about posturing than progress.

I urge Rep. Kelly to reconsider his stance and to listen more closely to the needs and voices of his constituents. We deserve a representative who acts in our best interests, not one who follows Donald Trump’s lead at the expense of our community’s future. Please keep this vote in mind when you enter the voting booth in November.

Vincent Sanzotti,

Center Township
