Police: Woman throws items at officer
A Pittsburgh woman is accused of throwing items and punches at police in Butler.
Shawndia Shame Devaughn, 31, was charged Tuesday, March 10, by Butler police with felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor resisting arrest following a March 10 incident.
Police said they were dispatched to the General Richard Butler Bridge for a welfare check after receiving reports of a woman sitting on the side of the road.
Police found Devaughn holding lighter fluid and a lighter. Police said she mumbled something as she stood then said “she was ready to go to jail.”
The Devaughn reached her hands into her pockets as police continued to speak with her. Police said when she was instructed to remove her hands, she attempted to punch an officer.
Police said the woman then threw an object from her other pocket at the officer before she was apprehended. Police said she continued to pull away while being handcuffed.
Devaughn is being held in Butler County Prison on a $10,000 bail. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. March 23 before District Judge William Fullerton.
