Live osprey camera back on at Moraine State Park
The Moraine Preservation Fund has activated its live osprey nest camera at Moraine State Park.
The annual livestream provides an intimate look at the birds.
Installed in 2018, the camera livestreams the ospreys’ nest-building, egg-laying and hatching. Running 24 hours per day, seven days per week, the cameras use infrared vision for nighttime viewing. It is the only osprey camera in the state, according to a release from Experience Butler County.
To see the ospreys live, park visitors are encouraged to bring binoculars to observe the McDanels Launch nest site from a respectful distance. Additionally, unique views of the nesting platforms are available from the upper deck of Preston’s Pearl, an enclosed pontoon boat offering weekend cruises from Memorial Day weekend through the last weekend of October.
