Center Township puts 2026 paving, seal coat projects out to bid

CENTER TWP — Officials selected a nearly finalized list of township roads that will see paving, seal coating or other work later this year.

Center Township’s board of supervisors voted unanimously at its meeting Wednesday evening, March 11, to put the 2026 township paving project and seal coat project out to bid.

Supervisor Mark Lauer said four roads will be part of the paving project: Teakwood, Moore, East Brewster and Stoney Run roads. As for the seal coat project, 14 roads are expected to see work.

He said preparation for the seal coat work on at least eight of the roads can be done in-house, while the remainder will have a contractor.

“Basically, on those roads, we’re talking big machine milling. So (a contractor) will be able to do that stuff, that will free these guys up to do the smaller milling and the smaller hot mixing and getting to those bad areas on the roads,” Lauer explained.

He said he will include in the seal coat contract that work cannot begin until July 1, giving ample time for preparation. He added that some roads, such as Red Dog Road and Muddy Creek Drive, can be eliminate if bids come in higher than the board wishes to spend.

The board also approved road sweeping for the township and asked foreman Michael Iscrupe to call Penn Sweeping of Pittsburgh to do the work. The project does not require a bidding process as it only cost the township about $7,000 last year.

Final details of the seal coat contract are to be decided on Friday, so the board plans to ratify the bidding at its next meeting at 7 p.m. April 8.
