Betty Lou Smith, 83, of East Butler, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 11, 2026, in the comfort of her home.

Born Aug. 4, 1942, in Butler, she was the daughter of the late George and Bernice (Claypoole) Williams.

Betty was a graduate of Butler High School and went on to work for Hills and Ames as a sales associate. She was a member of East Butler Presbyterian Church. Betty was an avid fan of NASCAR, and especially enjoyed going to Lernerville Speedway to watch her grandson compete in the mini stocks. She enjoyed knitting and making afghans for the family, as well as taking care of her flower garden. Above all else, Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who adored spending time with her loving family.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 64 years, Ralph W. Smith, whom she married Sept. 28, 1962; her daughter, Ronda Claypoole; her daughter-in-law, Kathy Smith; her grandchildren, Matthew (Amber) Miller and Shane (Carrie) Miller; her stepgrandson, Mike Christie; her great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Mykaila, Chance and Matthew Jr.; her brother, Ronald (Doris) Williams; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Dan Smith; and two brothers, Jim and George.

SMITH — Family and friends of Betty Lou Smith, who died Wednesday, March 11, 2026, will be received from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 14, at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St., Butler.

She will be laid to rest privately in Greenlawn Burial Estates.
