Miller Minutes: ‘Get your green on’
Get your green on. St. Patrick’s Day is less than a week away!
While the big man himself wasn’t actually responsible for the eradication of snakes in Ireland, he is considered the first to introduce Christianity to the country. Often using the “three-leaf clover” or shamrock, to explain the Holy Trinity, it has become customary to wear green and/or clovers.
Celtic culture has always been big on “threes,” which might be why it is my favorite number. Leprechauns have to grant you three wishes if you catch them, there are three colors in Ireland’s flag, three rivers flowing through it and the popular ninth century wisdom sayings of the country are known as the “Triads of Ireland.”
So, to celebrate in threes, I have decided to give you my top three pieces of Irish culture to check out this weekend.
- Listen to “Swan Song” by Amble, an Irish band.
- Watch “Sing Street,” a movie about Dublin-based students forming a band.
- Read “The Picture of Dorian Gray” by Irish author Oscar Wilde.
