Kim O’Brokta
Kim Myung Soon O’Brokta, 45, of Manassas, Va., formerly of Slippery Rock, passed away at Butler Memorial Hospital on Saturday, March 7, 2026. She was born Nov. 7, 1980, in Daegu, South Korea. She was the daughter of James F. and Jessica E. “Jessie” (Hawk) McMenamin.
She loved her family and friends and was exceptional in every way. She was an honor student and graduated cum laude both at Slippery Rock High School in 1999 and at Wilson College, Chambersburg, in 2003. She received her master’s degree at Edinboro University in 2010. Kim was an art teacher at Osburn High School in Manassas, Va.
A parent of one of her students said, “You left a legacy of love for the arts and shared it with hundreds of students who passed through your hands. You will always live in our hearts because only those who are forgotten truly die.”
Kim illustrated a Children’s Book, “What Is Grit?” She also was commissioned by Colonial Williamsburg to design and paint a poster for their electronic field trip series entitled “The Rare Breeds.”
She loved to decorate, visit thrift stores and travel. She had visited Disney, Australia, Africa, Italy, Ireland and all the states on the Atlantic coastline. Kim also enjoyed playing Scrabble and was a fan of anime.
Surviving are her parents, Jim and Jessie McMenamin, of Slippery Rock; sister, Heather (Tim) Hedderman, of Erie; and six nieces and nephews, Alayna (Jake) Stancliff, plus Ben, Bella-Ann, T. J., Lucas and Cadia Hedderman, all of Erie.
OBROKTA — The family of Kim Myung Soon O’Brokta, who died Saturday, March 7, 2026, will receive friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 421 New Castle St. Slippery Rock.
There will be a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 11, at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 670 S. Main St., Slippery Rock, with the Rev. Father Adam Verona presiding.
Interment will be in Slippery Rock Cemetery.
