A Butler man is accused of stealing jewelry from a Butler Township home when working in the home for a moving company.

Fredrick Eldwin Hodgkins, 67, was charged Wednesday, March 4, by Butler Township police with one felony count each of theft and receiving stolen property following a Jan. 5 incident.

Police said they received a report from a woman who said jewelry had been stolen from her Rothen Avenue residence. She was missing a silver ring with three oval diamonds valued at $8,763, three turquoise and silver rings valued at $200 each, a silver wedding band valued at $600 and a 14-karate necklace with a pendant valued at $1,123. The entire collection was valued at $11,086, police said.

The jewelry went missing from her jewelry box Feb. 5 after Hodgkins and two other employees of Don Farr Moving and Storage worked at the home that day.

Police later discovered that jewelry that matched the stolen items was sold Feb. 14 on a website.

Police later interviewed Hodgkins and said he admitted to possessing the silver ring with three diamonds.

Hodgkins’ preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. March 19 before District Judge Kevin O’Donnell.
