Linen pieces on display at Grove City Area Community Library

A Grove City Area Historical Society & Museum volunteer has installed a new display for community enjoyment at the Grove City Community Library.

Throughout March, just inside the door, the display case on the right is featuring linen pieces out of the society’s Palmer-Smith collection. Before WWII, Arthur Palmer was skillfully crafting hammered aluminum pieces, but after the war, Palmer switched his artistic talent to machine-made chain stitch items.

Located in a building just outside Grove City, he and his staff produced a variety of embroidered items. One could order a tablecloth and napkins to match a china pattern or a wallpaper pattern, or custom order purses, tote bags, hand-embroidered sweaters or place mats.

Drop into the library to see many of their products in the display case during the month of March. All of the items in the display, as well as many others, have been donated to the historical society by the community. Hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays and noon to 3 p.m. on Saturdays at 111 College Ave, Grove City.
