John Albert Christie Sr., 90, of Butler, passed away Sunday, Feb. 22, 2026, at Butler Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Born Dec. 3, 1935, in Madison, Ohio, he was the son of Raymond Christie and Julia Adams Christie.

John proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He worked as a laborer for U.S. Steel and was a deputy constable for Winfield Township in his earlier days. He enjoyed bowling, bingo, shuffleboard and loved spending time with his family. John had spent 38 years in Florida after his retirement.

Surviving are his wife, Hilda Shively Christie, of Butler; children, Norma “Gege” (Ron Kern) Christie, Kathleen Smith, Linda Smith and David Christie; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, John Christie Jr.; two stepsons, Steven Hesidenz and Michael Hesidenz; and six siblings.

CHRISTIE — A memorial service will be held at a later date for John Albert Christie Sr., who died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2026.
