GoFundMe passes $15K for family who lost home to fire
A GoFundMe for a Buffalo Township family who lost their home in a fire earlier this month raised more than $15,000 in its first week.
Maddy Pulaski created the fundraiser for her grandmother, sister, her husband and their three sons after their Edgewood Drive home off South Pike Road was destroyed in a Feb. 19 fire.
“They left in the morning for school and work and came home to nothing,” according to the GoFundMe.
The fundraiser brought in $15,775 from 128 donations in its first week, as of Friday morning. The money will help the family rebuild their lives and fund temporary living arrangements.
Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Company Chief Matt Cypher said although the home was lost, the family may have been able to save many of their personal items. The fire began in the basement, which was primarily used for storage, he said.
Cypher said arriving crews saw heavy smoke coming from the home’s front door. The caller had reported heavy smoke coming from the basement door, where low visibility in the basement was the most difficult part, Cypher said.
Only one of the home’s six residents were there during the fire.
