Butler grads, Slippery Rock thrower earn pair of conference honors: College roundup

Brock Collins, a Grove City College lacrosse freshman and Butler graduate, was named Presidents’ Athletic Conference Special of the Week on Monday.
Collins won 11 of 18 faceoffs and forced three turnovers in the Wolverines’ 31-8 win over Franciscan. A long stick midfielder, Collins scooped up eight ground balls and had an assist in the win.
Slippery Rock University senior thrower Zach Gose improved on his own NCAA provisional mark, taking fifth in the elite section of the weight throw at the Ashland Last Chance Meet with a 19.21-meter effort.
Grove City College freshman swimmer Abigail Vance, a Butler graduate, earned the PAC Most Valuable Performer award at the league’s title meet Saturday.
Vance, who helped the Titans earn their seventh consecutive title, was also named the league’s Newcomer of the Year. Vance won the 200-yard breaststroke at the event.
Meanwhile, freshman Mollie Massella, a Slippery Rock product, won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:10.09.
